The Nolan Meats boning room extension included the design and construction of an additional 2,000m2 of floor area to an existing 30 year old processing facility. Maintaining operation of the facility throughout the build was of utmost importance and had a contributing factor in the design choices and construction sequence chosen for the project.

As an extension to an existing facility, the project provided significant challenges due to the age of the building and functional layout adjustments to the existing building. McVeigh used 3D laser scanning to accurately detail and tie into the existing facility. The use of 30m clear span trusses in the boning room allowed for optimization of the space and created flexibility in the equipment layout.

Reducing onsite hot works was of a significant benefit to the client due to the nature of the site which presented a high fire risk. Through careful coordination and communication with the steel fabricator and through the McVeigh design, we were able to mitigate these high level risks and deliver a project on schedule with significant savings for our client.
