Located in the up and coming suburb of West End, these twin 12 storey residential buildings have river front aspects which includes four levels of basement car parking.

McVeigh have worked together with Devine Constructions to deliver value engineering cost savings to the developer. McVeigh used cutting edge software and design techniques to redesign the basement, foundations, transfers and typical floors, which contributed to the savings. The project was design using top-down construction methodology for the basements which is unconventional compared to traditional methods of design, wherein tower construction usually begins from the lowest basement.

The Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) operate 22 airports around Australia. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has experiences a sufficient increase in passenger transit over the last 10 years leading to the required expansion of the airport.

St Hilliers and McVeigh Consultants worked together to service ARFFS with an operational facility that complied with the standard regulations and was in accordance with their Functional Design Brief (FDB). ARFFS also expressed their desire to maintain good relationships with the local community throughout the project and beyond.

Concerns were raised by ARFFS during the design of the project regarding possible conflict with the Functional Design Brief. through the use of detailed visual analysis workshops, McVeigh successfully worked alongside St Hilliers to provide certainty of the key statutory obligations, and was able to provide clarity and assurance to ARFFS for the designs of the runway and outbuildings in relations to the current Fire Control Centre.

The office building development located on Cordelia Street in South Brisbane is an 18-storey commercial tower, with four basements comprising 198 carparks.

The design solution was to produce a unique building which reflects its setting in proximity to the CBD, Southbank, South Brisbane, West End and the Cultural Precinct at Kurilpa. The building was designed to deliver the clients requirements to be an architecturally modern building which responds to the site constraints, climate and requirements of a contemporary workplace.

We effectively created a development that encourages connections in and around the site and provides significant amenities for users of the building as well as the general public, while creating a sustainable building that is a vibrant addition to the emerging urbanisation of the South Brisbane Precinct. We successfully delivered a Five Star “Green Star” building that delivers long term benefits to the client, their tenants and the community.

Port of Brisbane Bunnings Distribution Centre is a 30,000m² warehouse with 450m² office with flexibility for lineal expansion of a further 10,000m² in the future.

The warehouse facility includes a battery charge area and Material Handling Equipment workshop, cross dock/flow through processing capability (receiving and despatch), storage capacity provided through racked and bulk stacking, truck movements based on Super B-Double access with 35 metre hardstand to receiving and despatch and recessed docks to receiving. Our experience with industrial design and documentation allowed us to successfully deliver a building and hardstand to meet the tenant’s project brief requirements, and our integrated team structure allowed the documentation to be delivered within the tenant’s tight program.

Project / Mowbray East Brisbane

Mowbray East Brisbane is an eight storey multi-residential development featuring 56 one and two bedroom apartments, a two level basement for car parking, and a rooftop recreational area for residents with views to the Brisbane river and city skyline. A commercial tenancy also occupies a portion of the ground level of the development.

Using our integrated design model, McVeigh were able to cater to the clients needs by providing an aesthetically pleasing building that maximises its use of a spatially constrained site. A precast patterned concrete wall designed in the early phase of the project was a result of merging the architectural and structural design processes to address one of the highly prominent eight-level high facades in this development.

A Council road resumption decreased the width of the site by six meters, compressing the overall site and presenting a challenge to achieve the desired ratio of car park numbers to residential units. However, McVeigh were able to adjust the design and explore different structural systems that worked with the architectural layout and that addressed the clients’ requirements for maximising the unit and car parking numbers. We also added value to the project through our integrated design by minimizing the amount of transfer beams required within the building, while retaining the integrity of the development.
