Positioned on Angus Smith Drive in Townsville, PresCare Aged Care Facility is a four-storey development to be constructed by Woollam Constructions. Architecturally designed by Thomson Adsett, this impressive development will comprise of 140 residential rooms, gymnasium, physio, and other aged care amenities. It will boast communal spaces and balconies on each residential level, a roof top garden terrace, a café and hairdresser.

The clients goal is to provide aged care accommodation and a high level dementia and respite care facility, with asthetic and lifestyle appeal, whilst achieving an efficient design. McVeigh achieved this by clearly and accurately communicating the price impact of all decisions that are made throughout the entire design process.

McVeigh’s design team achieved significant cost savings by reconfiguring the column arrangement to minimise transfers and reduced the thickness of typical floor slabs, whilst maintaining the spacial requirements of the bedrooms and ensuites. We also reduced bathroom setdowns from 60mm to 30mm, and converted the roof design from concrete to a steel frame after an alternative and more cost effective location was determined for the plant equipment. McVeigh was innovative in producing 3D virtual reality imagery for the steel frame roof for advanced clash detection, reducing RFI’s in the shop drawing process.
